Cheeky Cheeks

When applying make-up to your cheeks there are three key areas to incorporate - contour, highlight and blush.

Each make-up technique is important in adding dimension, to not only the cheeks but also in framing the face.

Contouring can be beneficial as it slims down the features of the face that you may want to appear smaller, such as the nose or the jaw line. But sticking with the cheeks, contouring allows for a structured look and also acts as a facial framer. In order to contour correctly the bronzer that is used must be a deeper shade than your skin tone and must also steer away from any orange or shimmery undertones. In addition, the bronzer is applied along the the cheek bones, starting at the highest point near the ear and running in toward the mouth but never reaching it. A key point when contouring is blend, blend, blend! No one wants to see any harsh lines.

Items that work great for contouring include:

* NYX Tango Brozing Stick - Fashion Mecca ($14.99 AUD)
* Rimmel Natural Bronzer - Feel Unique ($8.13 AUD)

To complete any contour look is an accompaniment of highlighter. Highlighter creates a shimmery effect and adds light to the cheeks, not to mention it also looks great in photos. For application, apply highlighter directly above the cheek bone and blend in with a light hand not to erase the highlight completely.

Items that work great for highlighting include:

* NARS Blush Duo (in Hungry Heart) - Mecca Maxima ($66.00 AUD)
* FaceFront Flashlight Highlight Powder - Cherry Culture ($14.00 AUD)

Once the cheeks have been contoured and highlighted it is important to add some colour back into the face so it doesn't appear bland. Adding blush will create dimension in the cheeks and can compliment any look. With a wide variety of colours, blush is a great way to tie a look together. For application, blush should be placed on the apples of the cheeks.

Items that work well for blush include:

* Revlon Photoready Creme Blush - Myer ($26.95 AUD)
